Maintaining Hairstyles After Your Hair Appointment

Updated: Feb 4, 2023

If you've ever had your hair done at a salon, then you know how great it feels to leave with a new look. But even the most gorgeous hairstyle can be ruined with just one touch of your hands or an accidental run through the wind. To help prevent this from happening, here are some tips on how to maintain your hairstyle after getting it done:

What do do at home after getting your hair done.

The first thing to do after getting your hair done is to wait 24 hours before washing it. This gives the products and styles time to set in, and will avoid any frizz or damage from a premature washing.

After that, there are a few things you can do at home to ensure that your style lasts as long as possible:

  • Don't touch your hair! You don't want to mess up those pretty curls by running fingers through them too soon; though some people like their hair loose and soft right after getting it styled, others prefer that the styling lasts longer. In either case, it's best not to touch it until after it's completely dry.

  • Don't wash your hair for at least 24 hours (as you've already seen above). The reason for this one should be obvious: washing out all of those gorgeous products will take away from the look of your hairstyle significantly! You may love being clean but beauty takes sacrifice sometimes ;)

  • Don’t use heat on your hair — including blow dryers or curling irons — for at least 48 hours; this includes flat ironing or straightening when using thermal protectant spray beforehand (if necessary). Again this goes back into trying not messing up what has been done; if you have naturally curly hair then using heat could ruin all of those lovely curls!

After coloring your hair, be sure to use a color-protecting shampoo and conditioner.

After coloring your hair, be sure to use a color-protecting shampoo and conditioner. These products are designed to prevent fading and protect the health of your hair. If you don't use one right after coloring, the dye will fade quicker than it should because of friction (from washing) or exposure to water (from swimming). When maintaining your blondes with purple shampoo make sure to only use once a week and wait a few weeks after your color service before using. Over use can cause buildup of the color which can dull the hair making it look darker. Same goes for blue shampoo to neutralize brassy tones in darker hair.

To maintain a blowout in between appointments, use a dry shampoo to touch up oily spots.

To maintain your blowout between appointments, use a dry shampoo—a product that absorbs excess oil and creates texture. Follow these steps:

  • Apply the dry shampoo at the roots where you want to add volume or height.

  • Massage it into your scalp with your fingertips or brush gently until it's absorbed into the hair.

  • Style as desired!

  • Apply before bed to allow the product to work overnight! All ready to style when you wake.

  • Apply on freshly washed blowdried hair to add texture and be proactive with your scalps natural oils.

Conclusion

Remember, when it comes to maintaining your style, there is nothing more important than regular appointments at a salon. It’s the only way you can guarantee that your hair will always look as good as possible! But even if you follow our tips and tricks for taking care of yourself after each visit, sometimes things might not go according to plan—it happens!
